The New Branches Community at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis began with a bold and beautiful vision: three distinct church congregations uniting under one roof. The challenge was to create a shared building that offered each congregation its own worship space while also providing areas that encouraged collaboration and community engagement. The existing layout wasn’t equipped for that kind of dynamic use—it needed better flow, more flexible space, and intentional design to support both individuality and unity.
Station 19 Architects answered the call with a creative and strategic redesign. The main worship space was reoriented to enhance focus and create a more spacious, functional lobby. Underutilized areas were transformed into an additional, smaller worship venue, giving flexibility for different styles of worship or gatherings. The administrative wing was reimagined to support staff from all three congregations, while hospitality zones—including a nursery, café, meeting room, and updated restrooms—were added near the lobby to enhance community connection and daily usability.
Through this partnership with Station 19, the New Branches Community has become more than just a shared space—it’s a living example of collaboration. The result is a one-of-a-kind faith community where three congregations can worship independently yet innovate and grow together, building something stronger through shared mission and shared space.
